Welcome
Welcome to DogLost.com.au. Australia’s
national database for lost and found pets across our
wide land.
One of the biggest problems in pet rescue is the correct
identification of animals and where they were found. Pets
can travel long distances before being found, complicating
the search being undertaken by an already upset owner. It
is also possible that a missing pet will be picked up by
a well meaning passer-by and taken to another area, again
making the owners search difficult as their pet may not be
in the local pound, but in one further afield.
DogLost.com.au has been created to assist lost and found
pets all over Australia to be reunited with their fretting
owners. The website is run by volunteers who have devoted
their time and energy to bring to you a complete service
for searching for, listing, and hopefully locating your
lost or found pet.
We do stress that this service should not replace conventional
searching methods, rather it should be used as an additional
option for locating your lost pet, or for locating the
home of a pet you've found.
It is essential, if you have lost a pet that you still
contact and visit as many dog pounds as you can during
your search. Pound staff are human, and do sometimes incorrectly
identify dogs, so please don’t just phone pounds
- visit them in person to see if you can identify your
pet as part of your search routine.
If you have found a pet, we stress that you must report this to
your local pound - it will assist the fretting owner in their search,
but please also list the pet you found in our database, including
the details of the pound the missing pet has been taken to.
In the future we hope to have pounds and rescue
organisations using this database to list strays that are handed
in or picked up by authorities, making it that little bit
easier to search and find for your lost friends.
